The Outage Backup Experts · British Columbia

Outage? What outage.Keep your power on

NorthPoint is BC's outage backup expert. We design solar + battery systems around how your home actually uses power—so when the grid goes down, you don't.

Match the system to your energy use Start with the load, then size the panels

A better system begins with what you use, when you use it, and what needs to stay powered. We size generation, storage and controls as one operating system.

01 / RESIDENTIAL

Home solar + backup

Offset daytime consumption, carry solar into the evening and reserve capacity for essential circuits during outages.

02 / COMMERCIAL

Commercial energy systems

On-site generation and storage engineered around operating hours, electrical demand and capital planning.

  • Load-profile analysis
  • Solar + storage EPC
  • Clean Technology ITC planning support*
03 / STORAGE

Battery-first retrofits

Add storage to an existing solar system or start with backup power now and build toward solar later.

  • Critical-load design
  • Existing-system review
  • Monitoring and commissioning
Around the solar system

One home energy upgrade,planned together

Solar stays at the centre. NorthPoint can also design the battery, EV charging and electrical capacity around it—either as standalone work or as one coordinated project.

01 / STANDALONE STORAGE

Battery backup without solar

Add battery storage now for outage resilience and time-of-use load shifting, even when rooftop solar is not part of the project.

  • Critical-load and runtime planning
  • Peak-demand and time-of-use strategy
  • Solar-ready design for a future phase
02 / EV CHARGING

Home EV charger installation

Plan a dedicated home charging circuit around the vehicle, daily driving needs and the property’s available electrical capacity.

  • Load and panel-capacity review
  • Charger circuit and installation planning
  • Coordination with solar and battery controls
03 / ELECTRICAL UPGRADES

Panel and service upgrades

Prepare the electrical backbone for solar, storage and EV charging, including 100A-to-200A service upgrades where the site and utility requirements support it.

  • Main-panel and service assessment
  • Capacity planning for new electric loads
  • Coordination with permits and utility work
Better planned as one project

Bundling these upgrades with solar can reduce duplicate design work, site visits and electrical rework—often making the overall project more efficient and cost-effective.

About NorthPoint

EPC discipline, from first model to final switch-on

Our team brings completed-project experience into a focused BC solar and storage company. One plan connects the engineering decisions, equipment selection, construction details and commissioning work.

01

Engineer: review electrical usage, site constraints, system architecture and backup priorities.

02

Procure: match equipment to the design, warranty requirements and long-term service plan.

03

Construct: coordinate installation, interconnection and commissioning as one delivery process.

Early-stage estimator

Size the system around what matters most

Start with the night the power goes out: the sump pump stops, the well pump stops, the freezer starts to warm. A NorthPoint system is sized first around the loads that protect your home — the bill savings follow.

Your planning range

Outage protection

Sump and well pumps, refrigeration, heating controls, internet and security stay powered through an overnight outage.

Suggested solar size8–10 kW
Battery starting point10 kWh
Annual production range7.6–11 MWh
Provincial rebate programsCheck eligibility
Illustrative project cost$32k–$37k

Provincial rebate programs exist for solar and battery storage; amounts and eligibility vary by program and installer. See BC Hydro's rebate information for current details.

One outage is all it takes. A winter storm cuts power for 14 hours. Without backup, the sump pump sits idle — by morning the basement has taken water: flooring, drywall, furnace repairs. With a NorthPoint battery, the pump never stops.

Remote and rural properties

Where outages are routine, not rare. Keep the well pump, septic, heat and communications running when the grid goes down for hours or days.

High-value homes

Finished basements, wine cellars, home offices, medical equipment. A single basement flood can cost more than the battery that would have prevented it.

Planning figures use $2.50/W installed solar and about $1,150/kWh installed battery. Provincial rebate programs may reduce the net cost; amounts and eligibility vary by program. Figures are illustrative; final quote follows a site assessment.

Customer stories

What good delivery should feel like

Two field notes from real NorthPoint job sites, shared with the customers’ permission — names withheld.

When the system was done, the homeowner was so pleased they insisted on tipping us — we politely declined. Doing the job right is the job.

— From a real NorthPoint job site

Another customer invited all their neighbours over to watch the full storage install. The job site is the best advertisement there is.

01

A proposal you can interrogate

Production assumptions, equipment choices and backup limits are explained before a contract is signed.

02

A site treated like a jobsite

Scheduling, safety, weather protection and cleanup are part of the delivery plan—not afterthoughts.

03

A system you know how to use

Commissioning ends with monitoring access, an owner walkthrough and a clear support path.

Practical answers

Before you put panelson the roof

Does solar work through a BC winter?

Yes, but annual production is seasonal. A sound design models the full year, accounts for roof orientation and shading, and avoids promising summer output in December.

Why add a battery if the grid is available?

A battery can carry daytime solar into the evening, support selected loads during outages and reduce how much excess generation leaves the property at the fixed export-credit rate.

What incentives may apply?

Provincial rebate programs may apply to residential solar and battery storage; amounts and eligibility vary by program. Taxable Canadian corporations may be eligible for a 30% federal Clean Technology ITC on qualifying property, subject to rules and labour requirements. Eligibility is verified for each project.

Does NorthPoint handle the whole project?

The model is end-to-end EPC: engineering, equipment procurement, construction coordination, interconnection and commissioning are managed as one delivery process.
